After being met with immediate backlash and strong criticism from many circles- members of the District One legislative delegation last week abandoned the idea of having Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties annexed into West Virginia. While the idea was welcomed with open arms by state leaders in West Virginia, including Governor Jim Justice, the proposal was not well received on the Maryland side of the border. "Ridiculous" and "an embarrassment" is how some described the effort- while Governor Larry Hogan dismissed it as a publicity stunt.
