Congresswoman April McClain-Delaney announced on Saturday her plans to bring a constituent who is a recently laid off federal employee to President’s Trump’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, March 4. Matthew Fessler was employed as a Health Insurance Specialist at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and focused on measuring improper payments within the Medicare Part D Program. He also worked to review new regulations and expand transparency and accountability practices within CMS. In short, his chief job was finding waste, fraud, and abuse within a federal agency—but was fired by DOGE in pursuit of cutting waste, fraud, and abuse.
Matthew took a pay cut to take this job because he was eager to serve his country and protect taxpayer dollars and the Medicare program. Despite receiving an "Achieves Outstanding Results" rating on a January 6, 2025, performance review, he was unexpectedly terminated on February 15 due to alleged “inadequate performance.”
WCBC will have complete coverage of President Donald Trump’s address to a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, March 4th at 9pm.
