The final numbers for Maryland’s Sixth District Congressional seat showed incumbent Democrat David Trone winning by a healthy margin- 54% to 45% over Republican Neil Parrott. The final 9 point spread was somewhat surprising as Parrott actually led Trone 51-49% on election night- and the race wasn’t officially called for three days. What made the contest so close initially was Parrott’s strong performance in the far western region of the state- besting Trone by 8,000 votes in Washington County; 6,300 in Allegany County; and 5,700 in Garrett County. Trone fared much better and picked up easy wins in Democrat heavy Montgomery and Frederick counties.
