Maryland’s unemployment rate ticked up just slightly in August to 2.9%. It is still below the national unemployment rate of 4.1%. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Maryland’s labor force expanded by just over 5,000 new workers with the most growth in Private Education, Transportation, and Warehousing. Sectors seeing job loss were Accommodation and Food Services and Retail. Over the first eight months of the year, the state has added 31,800 jobs.
