Maryland Speaker of the House Adrienne Jones visited Allegany County on Tuesday to get an up close in-person look at a number of key regional projects. Jones, a Baltimore County Democrat, met with the Allegany County Commissioners before making stops at Canal Place and the Rocky Gap Casino Resort. During a press availability the speaker was asked if she feels Western Marylander’s issues and concerns are being heard in Annapolis. There have been regular references over the years to a so-called “war on rural Maryland”- culminating last October when a number of Republican lawmakers in Allegany and Garrett counties sought secession to West Virginia. Despite that story garnering national attention, Speaker Jones said she was not aware of any instances of rural Maryland feeling slighted in any way, and that the region has a strong voice in the General Assembly…
