Maryland Cannabis Administration today released year-end sales data for 2023 and launched a Medical and Adult-Use Cannabis Data Dashboard. The data dashboard provides site visitors with interactive maps, sales and volume figures, and graphs that allow users to explore a wide range of data formatted in aggregate sales, licensing and patient data.
Sales Data
December marks the highest grossing month since adult-use cannabis legalization took effect on July 1, 2023. Monthly retail sales surpassed $96 million, with the adult-use market accounting for nearly two-thirds of total sales ($61.5 million). Combined medical and adult-use retail sales totaled almost $800 million for 2023 ($796.3 million), with $550 million in sales since adult-use sales began on July 1. Adult-use retail sales for the period from July 1 through December 31 totaled $331.8 million.
Data Dashboard
The Cannabis Administration launched the Medical and Adult-Use Cannabis Data Dashboard in an effort to promote transparency and provide key program data and metrics related to Maryland’s cannabis industry. “The data dashboard provides industry stakeholders and the public with access to important market and business data,” said Maryland Cannabis Administration Acting Director Will Tilburg. “And, we are working to expand the scope of information included in the dashboard. In the coming months important aggregate data related to the medical cannabis program, inspections and compliance, and laboratory testing will be added.”
The dashboard data will be updated monthly and site visitors will have an option to download the entire dataset. The dashboard also contains a set of filters that allow users to target specific information, and extracted data can be saved as an .xls, or .csv file or viewed as a PDF file. You can find the date of the current data extract on the navigation bar. The dashboard will not display any personally identifiable data or protected health information. Any source data for the dashboard has been aggregated and de-identified in compliance with state and federal law. For best results when accessing the dashboard, the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft browsers are recommended. For more information, please visit cannabis.maryland.gov.
