Deputy State Fire Marshals charged a Hagerstown man after determining he was responsible for setting his brother's utility trailer on fire Thursday morning.
Just after 10:00 a.m., Halfway Fire Department and Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported vehicle fire in the 16900 block of Shadybrook Terrace. They discovered a utility trailer with brush and tree limbs inside on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes, and no injuries were reported.
During the investigation, through interviews and surveillance video, Deputy State Fire Marshals identified the owners' brother, Christian Reyes Torres, 25, as responsible. They were told that Torres had been staying with his brother; however, he was asked to leave. Torres later returned, and during an argument with family members, he threatened to burn down the home. Torres left the home, and as he left, he set the trailer on fire and left the area.
Washington County Sheriff's located Torres yesterday evening, and took him into custody. Torres was charged with arson second-degree, malicious burning first-degree, malicious destruction of property over $1000.00, rogue and vagabond, and arson threat. Torres was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was held without bond.
