Lt. Governor Visit for Book Donation and Reading Event in Cumberland

On Wednesday, May 15th, Lt. Governor Aruna Miller will visit Bel Air Elementary School to participate in a book reading to students with Cumberland-native, Hannah Smith who is the author of five books that have been sold with global recognition. Hannah’s 2020 book The Silly Yak Who Had Celiac will be read to observe National Celiac Awareness Month. Smith and the Western Maryland Literacy Initiative will donate several hundred books to the students of Bel Air Elementary School. Not only will the school’s library benefit from this generous donation but each student will be able to take at least two books home with them this Summer as well.

A 2014 graduate of Allegany High School and a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Smith will also donate several hundred books to Allegany High School with Cumberland City Council member Eugene Frazier.
