Seemingly undaunted by a new public opinion poll, Republican state Delegate Dan Cox said his gubernatorial bid is “within striking distance” of his main rival, Democrat Wes Moore. The poll was released just days before the two men squared off in a debate Wednesday hosted by Maryland Public Television. Cox, who has been dismissed as a “conspiracy theorist” by many and called a “q-anon whack job” by Governor Larry Hogan, trails by as many as 22 points in polls released this week. Endorsed by former President Donald Trump, Cox does not have the support of most Republican leaders in the state including Hogan and Lt Governor Boyd Rutherford who view him as unelectable. Rutherford told WBAL radio that by nominating Cox, many of the inroads made by Republicans during the Hogan administration will be greatly diminished, leaving the party back at square one…
