Nearly $32 million dollars in federal funding will support the use of low carbon materials in federally funded projects across Maryland. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin said the funding supports Maryland’s goal to reduce greenhouse emissions by 60% by 2031. The state already uses reclaimed asphalt on certain projects. Materials like concrete and steel will continue to be used but Mona Mohammed of the United Nations Environment program says research is ongoing…
“Decarbonize these conventional materials by looking at energy efficiency, by looking at process innovations and the mix that we have in these materials and any substitutions using natural fibers or others that might be useful.”
