No injuries or damage reported when a "loud boom" occurred Tuesday morning at the Northrup Grumman/ATK facility on state Route 956 near Short Gap. The incident prompted calls to the Allegany County 911 emergency center at about 10:00 a.m., and some calls to WCBC. There were reports of hearing the noise from Cumberland to Oldtown. A check with Mineral County Emergency Management revealed that no fire or EMS units were dispatched and they were not aware of any problems or safety concerns at the facility. West Virginia State Police in Mineral County also reported having not been contacted. Calls to ATK plant went to voice mail for the communications director. There were several unconfirmed reports on social media sites that the noise was the result of a rocket motor being tested.
