Prior to the Allegany County Board of Education’s vote on masking policies for the upcoming school year- they had the opportunity to hear from the public. A number of people signed up to address the board during the regular monthly meeting and even more emailed comments and opinions on the controversial mask debate. If the board was hoping to hear a strong concensus of opinion to perhaps sway the vote- that didn’t happen. There were strong and clear divisions on the mask vs non mask question…

The board ultimately voted to recommend, but not require face coverings to start the school year- but with the caveat that the policy could change based on future state education and health department guidance.
