Frostburg’s Annapolis lobbyist, Rich Reinhardt, spoke with the Mayor and City Council about recent developments concerning funding for the Senator George C. Edwards Fund.  Maryland’s proposed budget currently shows $10 million allocated for the fund in FY 2026, but Reinhardt says there is discussion about changing the type of funding…

   

“Instead of it being a ten-million dollar dedication each year, they were going to turn it into a discretionary for the governor.”

Reinhardt explained such a change could actually work to protect the fund’s future…

   

“If we were to mandate a line item each year in the governor’s budget, that could open up the potential for the General Assembly to strip that money out either by cutting it in half or just taking out all entirely.”
