The City of Cumberland will begin its annual leaf collection on Monday, October 30th. The Street Maintenance Division of Public Works will handle the collection as in years past. Residents in the area scheduled for pickup during a particular week should rake their leaves the weekend before the collection. Leaves should be raked into piles to the edge of the sidewalk adjacent to the street, but not into the street, to avoid clogging the storm sewer collection basins. The City’s leaf collection machine will collect leaves only and is not intended to pick up branches and other yard debris. Residents are encouraged to park their vehicles in a manner that does not block access to the leaf piles.
The city plans to collect leaves on each street only once, so residents who do not have their leaves raked properly at the time of collection will have to dispose of them another way. Residents may also bag leaves and place them at the curb on their regular trash days. Burgmeier Hauling will collect up to 8 trash bags per pickup, including leaves. Further Information about city-wide leaf collection may be obtained by calling The Streets and Public Properties Division at 301-759-6622 or 301-759-6639 or by emailing devin.burke@cumberlandmd.gov | kenny.dawson@cumberlandmd.gov.
