Lavale Man Arrested in Fayette Street Assault

On December 8, 2024, at 1:36 am, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 700 block of Fayette Street, Cumberland, following a report of a man with a weapon.

Upon arrival, officers interviewed several witnesses who stated that during a house party, an altercation occurred in which a male suspect struck an 18-year-old male victim in the head with a handgun and stabbed a 21-year-old female victim with a knife. The injuries sustained were minor, and both victims refused medical treatment at the scene. The suspect had left the party prior to police arrival.

Further investigation was conducted by the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit. Detectives conducted multiple interviews and executed several search warrants, which led to the recovery of evidence, including weapons believed to have been used in the crime.

As a result of the investigation, Jazavier Maleik Wigger, age 18, of LaVale, Maryland, was arrested by the Maryland State Police at a LaVale business.   Jazavier Wigger was charged with felony assault, misdemeanor assault, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, possession of a deadly weapon, and disorderly conduct. Wigger was initially held without bond pending trial but has since been released on bond pending trial.
