24-year old Laken Morgan died of a fentanyl overdose in 2021, leaving behind a newborn. Now the West Virginia General Assembly has passed “Laken’s Law,” a measure that will require students in grades 6-12 receive education on drug use prevention, resources, and specific dangers about fentanyl, heroin, and opioids. The legislation was sponsored by Delegate Jeff Stephens, a school teacher in Marshall County.
