On Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Kentucky Ave for the report of an assault involving a baseball bat. Once on scene, officers located a male victim who was suffering from head, face, arm, and leg injuries. After taking a brief statement from the victim, the Cumberland Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a nearby medical facility with suspected serious injuries. After speaking with the victim and other witnesses to the assault, it was determined that an argument broke out in the home over ramen noodles. During the argument, the suspect exited a room with a baseball bat and began to strike the victim multiple times. As a result of the investigation, Steven William McDonald, 32, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking for processing. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
