A new report shows the rate of juvenile crime has been falling recently, but disparities remain in Maryland and nationwide. The Sentencing Project released a report that shows the number of youth in juvenile justice facilities has fallen from more than 100,000 in 2000 to 27,000 in 2022. Report author Josh Rovner says perception of the crime rate is often tied to hearing about dramatic crimes…
"Whether it’s a homicide or a retail theft, that’s an upsetting thing to hear. And the value in data is to put those events into context and understand that we have always had problems with public safety as a country; and to understand whether things are getting better or worse is pretty important if you’re trying to solve something."
