A Baltimore judge has approved the release of a redacted copy of the report that details the history of child sexual abuse within the Archdiocese of Baltimore. WBAL reports Judge Robert Taylor ordered the Maryland Office of the Attorney General to release the redacted report.
The office submitted a list of 220 names to the court and proposed references to 60 have their names titles and other information removed. The names of 21 individuals were not obtained through grand jury subpoenas and 91 others are deceased.
Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown released a statement following the news:
“We are pleased with the Court’s order this afternoon authorizing release of a redacted version of our report on child sexual abuse by clergy in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. We will work to complete the court-ordered redactions and release the report as expeditiously as possible.”
The development comes on the same day the Maryland Senate gave preliminary approval to a bill that eliminates the statute of limitations on sex abuse lawsuits.
