With no clearly defined roll moving forward, the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority is concerned that the proposed River Park project is losing momentum. In 2018, a state-created Canal Place Task Force was charged with conducting a comprehensive review of the value and revenue potential for all entities making up the 13-acre Canal Place property. That review is to determine if Canal Place should continue as is, or if all or part of the property should be marketed to private interests. Until the future of the Authority is known, executive director Dee Dee Ritchie said it’s difficult to move forward with the River Park project. During Tuesday’s regular Canal Place meeting, Ritchie suggested getting all of the interested parties together for a meeting, and to urge the Task Force to complete its charge and provide some clear direction.
