The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is investigating after one inmate was injured during a fight at the North Branch Correctional Institution Monday morning. According to correctional officials, a 29-year-old inmate was hospitalized as a precaution. The assault occurred when three inmates began fighting outside a housing unit around 8:30 a.m. The injured inmate suffered several puncture wounds from a homemade weapon. Correctional officers controlled the situation quickly, and none were injured. DPSCS detectives will be working with NBCI to determine a motive and pursue criminal charges.
