The Allegany County Board of Commissioners approved recommended changes to the county’s water and sewer rates during its regular public meeting on May 25th. The first set of bills reflecting the 10.4% increase is being sent out this week. With the increased rates, customers will average an increase of approximately $24 quarterly. Public Works director Adam Patterson explained that while the county’s water account is $710,000 in the positive, the sewer account is running $1.5million in the negative. The goal is to get the two pillars of water and sewer to stand on their own.
