The Allegany County Health Department has received notification from Amazon.com regarding a recall affecting the zippered mesh pencil cases which were purchased to package naloxone training materials for distribution to the community. A letter from Amazon customer service to the health department states:
Dear Amazon Customer,
We have learned of a potential safety issue that may impact your Amazon purchase(s) below:
Item: B004MTP43S – BAZIC Pencil Pouch 3 Ring Binder Pouch w/ Rivet Enforced Rings Holes, Mesh Window, Zipper Pouches Case Cosmetic Bag, Bright Assorted Color, 24-Pack
A U.S. Regulatory Agency and/or our Product Safety Team has provided us information that indicates that the product listed above may exceed the federal limits for lead and/or cadmium or contains a defect that presents a substantial product hazard under CPSA Section 15(a)(1) or (2).
If you still have this product, we urge you to stop using it immediately and dispose of the item.
If you purchased this item for someone else, please notify the recipient immediately and let them know they should dispose of the item. There is no need for you to return the product.

The health department has ceased use of the pouches that were purchased and is disposing of remaining inventory. However, kits which have already been given out to community members may include pouches falling within the recall. It is recommended that anyone who attended naloxone training through the Allegany County Health Department and received a naloxone kit put the contents in another container and immediately discard the zippered case.
