The relocation package promotion put out by the City of Cumberland has had a huge response according to Ruth Davis-Rogers, the city’s Historic Preservation Planner. Details on the pilot program were only r eleased to local media, but other outlets have picked up the offer that includes $10,000 in relocation funding and a dollar for dollar match up to $10,000 for renovations or a newly constructed home downpayment….
“So we put up a hook to see what would happen and oh my gosh. But I’m getting hundreds of emails and calls. It has been a much wider, we just are surprised, the flood gates have opened and oh my gosh everybody’s calling and everybody’s interested.”
Davis-Rogers said the program is directed mainly at those who work remotely and the quality of the applicants wanting to use the program is impressive…
“And I have to say, we have a lot of good applications. I mean these are from government workers, probably government workers and people working in the health industry are our highest applicants.”
