August 19th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

US Senator Chris Van Hollen and members of Maryland’s congressional delegation announced on Thursday that Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore will receive $20 million in federal funding to improve cancer surgery.  The funds will be used to develop new surgical imaging tools, allowing surgeons to better distinguish between healthy tissue and cancer.  The award is part of President Joe Biden’s “Cancer Moonshot Initiative”, which aims to reduce the cancer death rate in the US by at least half by 2047.
