Federal, state and local officials gathered to discuss new efforts and resources to decrease crime in Baltimore at a news conference. Gov. Larry Hogan announced the launch of the "knock and talk" initiative focused in Baltimore neighborhoods experiencing high rates of violence with people on parole. The enhanced engagement initiative will consist of eight teams of officers, and parole and probation agents who will make unannounced home visits in specific districts. “Addressing violent crime has been an important focus of our administration, and a critical piece of that has been increasing collaboration and coordination,” Hogan said. “I want to thank U.S. Attorney Barron for his partnership, and for his strong commitment to tackling violent crime. By working together, we are going to use every tool at our disposal to make our neighborhoods safer.”
