Since 1983, the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization has provided free walking tours of historic Rose Hill and Saints Peter and Paul cemeteries during Heritage Days weekend. The tours are at Noon and 3pm. Ed Taylor, Jr., CHCO President, told WCBC that the tour will feature Revolutionary War Heroes with a unique story. We have Thomas Beall. We erected his monument ten years ago. He’s a Revolutionary War soldier and founder of Cumberland. A Revolutionary War soldier Lt. Colonel Moses Rawlings. Rawlings Maryland is named after him. They are buried within eyeshot of each other. And these two guys were friends. They were prisoners in a British prison ship in New York. They escaped, came back to Cumberland, got a group of men and went back to New York and attacked the very people that imprisoned them.
