The national gas price average increased by three cents in the last week, despite a decline in gasoline demand, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Although gas demand dropped and total refinery utilization decreased, pump prices have increased in some states, signaling that expensive crude oil prices are driving the price. Gas prices are likely to see moderate increases, as crude prices remain high, through the weekend.
The gas price average in Maryland today is $2.46, down a penny from last week, up respectively 11 cents in the last month, and six cents from this date last year.
Today’s national gas price average is $2.42, up respectively three cents in the last week, 17 cents in the last month, and down seven cents from this time last year.

Marylanders saw little movement when it comes to pump prices with most areas within a penny or two of last week’s prices. The gas price average in Maryland today is $2.26, down respectively a penny in the last week, up six cents in the last month and down 37 cents from this date last year.
Today’s national gas price average is $2.18, unchanged in the last week and the last month, and down 51 cents from this time last year.
