A Frostburg woman faces arson charges after a grand jury handed up an indictment in connection with setting her estranged boyfriend's home on fire last October. Deputy State Fire Marshals arrested Heather Lynn Hutcheson, 43, this morning after a lengthy investigation concluded Hutcheson was responsible.
On October 13, 2024, at around 1:15 p.m., the Shaft Fire Department and surrounding departments responded to 11205 Upper Georges Creek Road in Frostburg for a dwelling fire after a passerby reported seeing smoke coming from the house. Firefighters took nearly ten minutes to control the fire, and the Office of the State Fire Marshals was requested to investigate the cause. Deputy State Fire Marshals concluded the fire was arson after finding several different areas of the home had been set on fire.
Through investigative techniques, deputies determined Hutcheson had been on the property before the fire. With the assistance of the Allegany State's Attorney's Office, investigators presented their case to the grand jury.
Hutcheson is currently being held without bond at Allegany County Detention Center. She has been charged with first-degree arson. Hutcheson faces 30 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $50,000 if convicted.
