***Adult Arrest***
On Friday, April 7th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police arrested Bernard Eltoine Wilcher, 34, of Washington DC. Wilcher was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred on April 4th. During that incident, an officer with the Cumberland Police attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on the vehicle Wilcher was operating. As the suspect vehicle came to a stop, Wicher immediately exited the vehicle and began to flee the stop on foot, running into a nearby apartment building. Officers gave chase and observed Wilcher removing items from his pants and attempting to discard them. Officers discovered that the items were an amount of suspected crack cocaine, in an amount that indicated the sales of such. Wilcher was apprehended after his unsuccessful attempt to jump a flight of stairs. It was also discovered at that time that Wilcher had a second open Arrest Warrant through Prince Georges County MD for eluding police on a traffic stop. Wilcher was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on $7,500 bond.
