On Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Fort Cumberland Homes for the report of a male subject who was attempting to unlawfully enter a home and also looking into vehicles. The male subject had left the area before officers arrived on scene but a description of the male was able to be obtained. A short time later, officers located a male matching the description of the suspect. At that time, officers stopped and contacted the subject, identified as Lamont Gross, 50, of Cumberland MD. At this time, it was learned that Gross had an active warrant for his arrest due to failing to appear in Circuit Court on a previous CDS possession charge. When he was informed he was under arrest, Gross threw a backpack he was wearing and began to flee from officers on foot. After a short foot chase, Gross was able to be taken into custody after a brief struggle. Upon a search of his person, Gross was found to be in possession of large quantities of suspected fentanyl and suboxone. Gross was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
