On 11/18/2022, at approximately 1655 hours, Deputies attempted to affect a traffic stop on a vehicle for operating with expired registration, traveling Eastbound on Interstate 68, near mile marker 50. The vehicle failed to yield to Deputies, and recklessly fled on to Pleasant Valley Road. A vehicle pursuit ensued, but was ultimately terminated after the suspect vehicle began to pass other motorists traveling on Pleasant Valley Road in an unsafe and negligent manner. After terminating the pursuit, Deputies were able to maintain a visual on the suspect vehicle as it traveled into Pennsylvania, and then back into Maryland. After re-entering Maryland, the suspect vehicle eventually stopped on the shoulder of the roadway across from the Love’s gas station in Cumberland, MD. At this time Deputies re-engaged the suspect vehicle and made contact with the operator, identified as Dennis Urgent, age 52, of Keyser WV.
Urgent was taken into custody without further incident, and placed under arrest for multiple serious traffic offenses including fleeing/eluding uniformed police, reckless, negligent, and aggressive driving, exceeding the posted speed limit (85 mph in a marked 25 mph zone), as well as criminal charges for obstructing and hindering law enforcement.
This incident is the 3rd fleeing/eluding uniformed police incident involving Urgent in the 2022 calendar year. Urgent was currently out on bond for the prior two fleeing/eluding incidents, and was scheduled to appear in Circuit Court on 11/22/2022 for a status hearing. Following his initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner, Urgent was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center and held without bond.
No accidents or injuries were reported or sustained during the entirety of this incident.
