The Federal Railroad Administration has ordered the replacement of all railroad ties between Cumberland and Frostburg before the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad can resume any of its activities. According to the Cumberland Times-News, the agency made that determination following an inspection. Some of the ties are nearly 50 years old.
The railroad was shut down by the pandemic in 2020, which resulted in a loss of all ticket sales revenue.
