FCC Pick Wants To Refresh “In Public Interest”

December 26th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

President Elect Donald Trump’s pick to head the FCC, current commissioner Brendan Carr, is looking to streamline and redefine the Federal Communications Commission.  He tells Inside Radio that he believes there are opportunities for synergy and greater efficiency and he also believes that it’s time to take a fresh look at rebuilding trust in media…

“Media used to be the most trusted institution in America and for a long time, at least  they could say we’re more trusted than Congress and now that has passed as well. It’s fallen to the bottom.  And so I think there’s a lot that needs to take place to restore trust and confidence in media. There’s a role for the FCC.  At least on the broadcast side for instance, they have to operate in the public interest. I think it’s probably appropriate for the FCC to take a fresh look at what that requirement looks like.”
