Fayette Street Arrest

On 01/17/2025 officers from the Cumberland Police Department and deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were working a warrant apprehension grant. They attempted to arrest a subject with a felony arrest warrant in the 700 block of Fayette Street.

The subject was able to barricade herself inside of her residence. Members of the Allegany County Special Operations Response Team as well as Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene.

A perimeter was established and the negotiators began speaking with the wanted subject. The negotiators were able to successfully have the wanted subject exit the residence and surrender herself to the officers, and deputies. She was transported to Allegany County Detention Center’s Central Booking to await her bond review hearing.

This matter remains under investigation and additional charges are pending.

On 09/20/2023 at approximately 7:45 PM the Cumberland City Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Fayette Street for a disturbance. Upon arrival officers learned that Samantha Smith had assaulted a subject on scene. Officers were able to observe minor injuries on the victim. Smith was placed under arrest and into a police vehicle after a brief struggle. Smith was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for central booking. Smith was seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on her own recognizance.

Charges – Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest
