Fatal Injury To Worker Reported on CSX Line in Cumberland

On August 6, 2023, at 11:53 members of the Cumberland Fire Department and the Cumberland Police Department responded to the railroad tracks in the area of Queen City Drive and Frederick Street in Cumberland for a report of a trauma patient. 

Upon arrival, first responders discovered that a CSX employee, Travis Bradley, age 40 of Ridgeley, WV, had been working around the train when he accidentally became entangled in the equipment and was seriously injured.  Medics from the Cumberland Fire Department treated Travis Bradley at the scene and transported him to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

The matter is being treated as an industrial accident and no foul play is expected.  The case is being investigated by the Cumberland Police Department, Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit, the CSX Police, and the National Transportation Safety Bureau. 

The CSX Communications Office released the following statement:

“CSX confirms that an employee was fatally injured in the course of working early this morning in Cumberland, MD. CSX mourns the loss of this employee and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. The safety of our railroaders is our highest priority.  CSX is working with officials to determine exactly what happened.”
