Farmer’s Market Chooses Canal Place

April 16th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

After spending two summers on the Canal Place Festival Grounds, the Allegany Farmer’s Market has decided to make it their permanent home.  This past fall, market members along with Downtown Development Commission Director Melinda Kelleher and City Fire Marshal Chris Ratliffe scoped out Baltimore Street to see if the market would be doable…

“With the new bricks, we don’t allow vehicles to park up on the sidewalks of the pavers because we want to preserve them for many years to come. That was going to be a little bit challenging for the farmers setting up their vehicles to be able to sell product.”

Kelleher says the space at Canal Place offers the market more opportunity…

“They have better room to grown over at the festival grounds at Canal Place. We were grateful for them to consider coming back, but I think it’s going to work best for them to be back over there.”
