During the Cumberland Mayor and City Council work session, Police Chief Chuck Ternent gave an update on the use of electronic speed enforcement signs. Ternent mapped out school zones for public and private schools and has been in contact with Redspeed International, a digital enforcement camera operation…
“They would come in to the city, do their own speed studies on streets that fit the criteria, and then they will install their equipment on there, on the streets. They will maintain their own equipment, and then they will liaison with the police department for the issuance of tickets.”
Cameras will be placed in locations with a speed limit under 35 miles per hour. Drivers would be cited for exceeding the speed limit by 12 miles per hour or more. Citations will not exceed $40.
