In a letter to the Allegany College of Maryland Foundation and to the Board of Trustees, Dr. Cynthia Bambara announced that she will step down effective January 1, 2025. She said the past 13 years at ACM have been "the highlight of my career." Bambara is the college's fifth president in its 63 year history and the only woman. Bambara took office in March of 2011 and has spent 40 years in higher education. She pledged a "seamless transition" as the college begins its search for her replacement.
