The streets of Downtown Cumberland are not the only things being reimagined.
Once the downtown is open to traffic again, attention will turn to the organization of the businesses in the area. Currently known as the Downtown Development Commission, the new Main Street designation will change the structure of the group.
An economic restructuring committee has been meeting with the city to come up with what the new group will look like according to DDC Director Melinda Kelleher…
"We're looking at making the downtown district a BID, Business Improvement District. First there has to be some information meetings that occur with all of the downtown building owners, speak to them how it's all going to work and so we're going to be scheduling those hopefully this fall."
