The downtown Cumberland area will soon be equipped with a state of the art surveillance system as efforts continue to prepare for the redesign of the mall and business district. The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation announced earlier this month that it will use a $50,000 grant designed to support crime prevention and increase public safety to expand the number of surveillance cameras being installed in the city’s downtown district. This was in addition to a $100,000 grant received last year from Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development for surveillance program. The CEDC has contracted with ARK Systems, Inc. of Cumberland for the purchase of 11 cameras. In addition 16 store-front cameras from Ring were obtained for building owners who request them.
