The celebration of the new-look Downtown Cumberland will continue through the weekend before streets officially open to traffic on Tuesday. Saturday is a community celebration, featuring family-oriented activities. For the first time in a long time a parade will go through the downtown. Organizer Julie Westendorf of the Allegany Arts Council tells WCBC that several local groups including the Fort Hill and Allegany High School bands will be performing in the parade that steps off at Noon on North Liberty Street. “We have participants from the Allegany County Animal Shelter; we have characters from the Black Magic Circus. We have the City of Cumberland Fire Department, we have the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Queen City Chapter, we have First Peoples Federal Credit Union, the Cumberland Composite Squadron from the Salvation Army, and we have a group from State Farm.”
