U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Jamie Raskin, David Trone and Glenn Ivey (all D-Md.) today announced that the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has delivered $38,000,000 in Federal Aviation Administration funding for improvements to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI) Airport.
The funding was made available through the FY2023 Airport Terminal Program, which was created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The grant will be used to support an improved passenger experience at BWI through a comprehensive upgrade to the airport’s largest baggage-handling system, new terminal concessions space, improved restrooms and more.
“Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is a gateway to the world and an economic powerhouse for Maryland,” said the lawmakers. “The federal infrastructure law recognized the importance of investing in our airports to maintain our competitive edge. This federal funding will be put to good use in Maryland to improve passengers’ experience and convenience at BWI.”
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is the largest long-term investment in our infrastructure and economy in our nation’s history. It provides $550 billion in new federal funding over fiscal years 2022 through 2026 for infrastructure projects including roads, bridges, mass transit, water infrastructure, resilience and broadband.
