The election of Dan Cox as the Republican nominee for governor in Maryland is threatening to widen the gap in an already divided GOP in the state- and it’s has created a bit of a conundrum for party loyalists. Campaigns for the November General election traditionally heat up post Labor Day and as Republicans hope to see the governorship stay in the party – that appears to be more challenging than ever with many in the GOP viewing Cox as unelectable. Some party leaders including Governor Larry Hogan are distancing themselves from Cox saying many of his views are extreme- with Hogan pulling no punches, calling him a “q-anon conspiracy theory whack job”. House Minority Leader, Delegate Jason Buckel of Allegany County, admits that Cox was not his first choice but suggests he will support the party’s nominee. As the campaign gets underway in earnest, Buckel says it’s up to Cox to shift the focus from conspiracy theories and Donald Trump, and talk about real issues that are impacting the lives of Marylanders every day…
