Downtown business owners and leaseholders can expect disruptions that could adversely affect their operations during the upcoming 18-month construction project on Baltimore Street. Those stakeholders will have an opportunity later this month to have all their questions answered about the possible impacts. The project, first introduced in 2016, includes replacement of underground utility lines and installation of high-speed fiber optics cable. Following the subterranean work, Baltimore Street will be reinstalled through the pedestrian mall as a one-way access road traveling east from Mechanic Street. The new street will supply 18 parallel parking spaces and a bicycle lane. Such an undertaking will create a myriad of issues for those operating businesses along Baltimore Street and the surrounding area.
