On Friday, January 27th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police served Abigayle Louise Colleen Hartman, 25, of Cumberland MD, with a criminal summons. The summons was issued in reference to a motor vehicle crash that occurred on December 22nd, 2022 in the 300 block of N. Centre St. During that incident, it is alleged that Hartman and the other driver exchanged vehicle information after the crash. It was later discovered that Hartman’s vehicle did not have valid insurance at the time of the crash. As a result, an application for charges was filed and a criminal summons issued by the Allegany County District Court for knowingly driving without insurance. Hartman was served the summons and released, pending trial.

On Friday, January 27th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police arrested David Lin Short, 63, of Cumberland MD. Short was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court on January 20th. The warrant alleged Short failed to appear in District Court on a previous charge of driving without a license. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He was held on $1,000 bond.

On Friday, January 27th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police arrested Xavier Mindel Vanpelt, 26, of Cumberland MD. Vanpelt was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County Circuit Court on January 26th. The warrant alleged Vanpelt violated the terms and conditions of probation that had been placed upon him due to a previous assault conviction. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He was held without bond. Vanpelt was also served with a Criminal Summons that was issued as a result of an incident that occurred on January 22nd. During that incident, it is alleged that Vanpelt assaulted another subject and stole items from them.

On Friday, January 27th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police responded to the 700 block of Lincoln St for the report of a male tampering with a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, officers contacted a witness who observed the unknown male suspect inside a vehicle. The witness advised that the suspect fled the area on foot as police were approaching the area. The owner of the vehicle in question was then located and it was discovered that two items had been stolen from inside. A detailed description of the suspect was able to be obtained from the witness and officers began to search the area. A short time later, a male subject was located that matched the description given by the witness. That subject was found to be in possession of the stolen items as well as CDS paraphernalia. As a result, Calman Dennis McKenzie, 28, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing. He was then taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he released on a $3,500 unsecured personal bond.

On Monday, December 26th, 2022, the Cumberland City Police arrested Anne Grove, 66, of Cumberland MD. Grove was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court. The warrant alleged that Grove failed to appear in court on August 13th, 2021, on a previous charge of second degree assault. She was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held on $2500 bond.

On Monday, December 26th, 2022, the Cumberland City Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Gateway Terrace for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers observed a male and female arguing in the driveway of the home. The officers then observed a male subject throw a female victim on the ground. The male was then detained and identified as Travis Maurice Peck, 33, of Cumberland MD. The investigation revealed that Peck and the victim had been involved in multiple verbal and physical altercations throughout the day. The victim alleged that Peck assaulted them numerous times during the day. When the victim attempted to leave the residence, Peck took the victim’s phone and would not allow her to leave the home. As a result, Peck was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
