The area’s first pay-as-you-can café is now open on a limited schedule. The Cumberland Community Café on North Centre Street is open on Sundays from 11am to 2pm. Such cafes area a movement across the country under the One World, Everyone Eats organization. A local group visited a similar café in Kentucky and were inspired to bring the concept here. “It’s a cafe where everyone is respected. It’s wholesome, and often farm-to-table food that everyone is entitled to, regardless of your ability to pay. So, you can pay it forward for someone else. You can pay the suggested price, or you can volunteer your time in order to have a meal.”
