Celebrating the completion with the Rediscover Cumberland Celebration kicks off at noon with a parade marching from Frederick Street to N. Liberty Street and onto Baltimore Street. Members of the Queen City Antique Car Club are participating in the parade along with marching bands from both Ft. Hill and Allegany High Schools. WCBC Radio will live stream the parade beginning at noon today on Facebook.
Teams of up to six people are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt throughout the downtown district. Designed with clues to find in plain sight but often missed features of historic Cumberland’s downtown and will lead teams across several blocks. The winning team that reaches the end with the highest number of correct answers will win a gift basket containing $200 of prizes. The scavenger hunt starts at 1 pm and finishes at 2:30 pm. Two stages on Baltimore Street and Liberty Street will feature six great local bands throughout the day. Performing on the Liberty Street stage are Tennessee Mojo, 2 pm; James Jones, 4:30 pm and Taylor Hill, 7 pm. Butterscotch Blonde hits the Baltimore Street stage at 3 pm, followed by Zona Hester at 5:30 pm, and finishes with The Haze at 8:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Several of the downtown Cumberland shops and restaurants plan to celebrate the day with customer appreciation sales and special events and activities. “This is the perfect time to discover just how special our downtown truly is,” added Matt Miller of CEDC. “We invite everyone to come and rediscover downtown Cumberland.”
