The State of Maryland’s most recent Consolidated Transportation Program takes a look at projects the state would like to address in the next six years. One of those is the crosstown bridge of I-68 through Cumberland. Mayor Ray Morriss said to WCBC Radio a study is going to be done, looking at the many safety issues concerning the bridge and ways to improve it…
“Taking a good look at I-68 as it goes through the City and see if there isn’t a way to make it safer in a lot of ways. We’re talking about the Johnson Street exit and the issues we’re having there – the rollovers of the trucks. But also, simply all of the exits and if there isn’t a better way to redesign them.”
Morriss said the study may look at closing and consolidating some of the exits to make getting into and out of town easier for motorists…
“The plan is to redeck the bridge. And if there was going to be an alteration of the exits coming off, it would coincide with that redecking of the bridge.”
