West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, during his regular briefing Friday confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state topped 1,000 Friday, the third day in the past week. The 1,081 new cases helped push the state’s active cases to more than 12,000 at 12,177, in information released by the state Department of Health and Human Resources. The state’s daily positivity rate did decrease while hospitalizations also decreased at the close of the week. Increasing cases in the Eastern Panhandle pushed Berkeley County in to the “red” category Friday. Other “red” counties include Mineral, Hardy, Marshall, Wood and Jackson counties. The latest deaths reported included an 85 year old woman from Mineral County and an 85 year-old man from Hampshire County.
